Our Outlook on LOST Finale
Gorgeous. What a great resolution to the most incredible show in television history. I love that I have read about 25 different interpretations of the ending already. It all comes down to the ultimate internal conflict – Are you a man of science or a man of faith?
I believe I was correct when I alluded to the movie “Waking Life” several weeks back. Before you die in a plane crash (which they definitely did – hence the end frames during the credits), your brain remains active for 8 minutes. Therefore, dreamscapes can span a lifetime.
These castaways weren’t the happiest bunch. In order to be at one with yourself and “let go,” one must feel content and worthy for something more than an abrupt turn into infinite darkness. In order to become whole, they had to find the meaning of life that they weren’t able to find while they were alive. And in this series, that was based around the idea of love.
Being a man of science myself, I like that I don’t have to justify the supernatural characteristics of the island. To me, there are no more questions regarding what things meant on the island. Just illusions of juxtaposing themes.
My only struggle right now is whether or not we were watching the series solely from the perspective of Jack or on a much grander scale. It makes the most sense since he was the one that had the most trouble finding himself in life. Making the ultimate sacrifice – now that’s “letting go.”
